I have been to many Stray Cats shows over the years. I don't think that they owe me anything. I chose to be a fan. I chose to follow their career. Why do you people think they owe you anything???

So, you left shows early to try to meet them. Some of you do and some of you don't. Tough!

So, you choose to hang out all day and wait for them at their hotels. Do you ever think that they are human and might want a little peace and quiet after traveling all day etc... ?

I just don't get you complainers.

So many of you say that there were only 3 people waiting! I have walked by crowds of people waiting by the backstage areas... and trust me, there have been many more than 3 to 4 people. The Cats would be out there all night signing autographs etc... not only to real fans, but to the EBAY bottom feeders.

Go to the show and enjoy it. They owe you nothing more. If you get to meet them, cool. If not, too f'n bad.

P.S. I'm a big Bowie fan... why don't one of you complainers go one to one of his shows and get his autograph for me.

first of all I WANT to get backstage, what almost 100% not will happen, since the people at The HMH, in Amsterdam are not willing to work something out with me.
I'm not a person that hangs out at hotels, wait 4 hours after the show to see them.
See my post in the stray tattoo thread, I hope a roadie or crew member will help me out, Brian is into Tats, hope he's willing to see mine......but almost lost the faith it will happen.....
and the picture witj me and brian ( and the tat) is personal.....nothing for ebay.
But what I hate the most, plectrum "collectors"......why are the plectrums not just for sale at the concerts?

Ben.. I understand that you want to meet the people you have idolized over the years, but really, how often does that happen? Be realistic.

Ok, how about if the Stray Cats did what Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Kiss etc.. do. Charge the fans an exorbitant amount of money..say $1000 per ticket so you get great seats and can come backstage after the show, meet them, get your photos, and chit chat a bit. Would you pay $1000 (because thats what they charge and their fans pay it) or would you complain about that too?

Never...`cause it`s not real. But i can understand people who are waiting hours for an autograph.
Let them.
This is the game if somebody is famous. I think artist will be shocked if nobody is waiting there. Wink

"ok, nice show, lets go home"

Yearsago i was waiting in front of the hotel of the Rolling Stones for one hour. They came out, went into the bus. 15 seconds. Wow...totaly stupid, but it was fun.

A few years ago i was working for the Deep Purple Tour in Germany. So i saw them backstage, my hardrock heroes. But no reason to get mad. They all doin a cool and good job and i appreciate people who playing good music. (but by the way, they were nice this evening)

Nice weekend

I see many people have looked at this thread, but minimal responses.

That justifies my point. You all either know I am right, or you just don't get it. Either way, you don't deserve anything just because you are a fan. You don't deserve meeting the band just because you drove, flew or whatever... a zillion miles to get to the gig, bought tickets, waited forever for the band... blah blah blah!

Come on, I see that a lot of you are in your 30's and 40's. If you were innocent 13 year old girls, I would understand, but you are middle aged people (as am I). Come on. Don't you feel a little pathetic?

I agree with you, to a point. The whiny posts in the Helsinki thread were deleted, so I don't know that this pre-emptively bitchy thread needed to be started. Did you really register on the board just so you could complain about the complainers?

An autograph is a great memento of an incredible evening. Sometimes, it comes with a even better story. A lot of times, it isn't even about an autograph, but just a moment to personally say thanks, and possibly interact with the artist. Whether they're 13, or 53, I'm not going to tell other fans how they should measure their enthusiasm for Brian, Lee, or Jim. And I don't think most fans who are waiting around feel they are "entitled" to their moment with Brian. They're just there, hoping for the best, expecting nothing, and walk away satisfied regardless of the outcome. Sure, there are obnoxious jerks who will yell something stupid, or post something idiotic, but they're a vocal minority. I actually enjoy hanging out and chatting with other fans while I'm waiting around. There's scarcely time for that when you're jockeying for a seat in a General Admission setting before the show.

Ben, I know you would like your moment with Brian. Sometimes, the best plan is to have no plan at all. If it is meant to happen, it will. I waited more than two hours in 7-degree weather after the 2005 tour opener to get a picture with Brian. Given the frostbite that followed, I did feel a little foolish after the fact, and I actually felt bad that I held Brian up even a second on his way to the warm tour bus. While I never felt "pathetic" I swore I would never do it again. At the Lee's Liquor Lounge show in 2006, I left the bar realizing I forgot to score a ticket stub for Scatman, so I drove back to the bar, arriving just as Brian was leaving. (Thanks for the Karma, Scatman!) I had a slightly longer exchange with Brian, got a much better photo, and really enjoyed watching Brian interact with the other fans in his new hometown of Minneapolis. What I'm saying is, those moments with Brian are thrilling to me, but the ones that "just happen" can be much more rewarding than those that are planned out with expectations piled high.

If you choose to hang out at the stage door after the show, more power to you. It is, after all, a farewell tour. And having fun on your own terms is what rock-n-roll is all about.

Happy to Be Pathetic-billy

I agree with Rick that the unplanned moments are sooo much more better (I think that applies to life as well really).. I don't think I've ever waited at the back door for a chance to meet the band. Having said that, I've met many people whom I admire musically just purely out of luck.. or faith, not quite sure yet. Obviously, if people want to wait for hours for their chance to meet the band then they can.. they have to be prepared though if they don't.. the band just put on an amazing show and you are not entitled to anything more than that, anything on top of that is a bonus.

The reaction of jean genie gets me so annoyed.. Why say things like this? Seems I missed another discussion? But call someone pathetic because they got other standards? I am such a 'pathetic' person. I'm really glad that Rick typed what he did because I was afraid to say something about my experience cause you lot seem to not like some negative stuff about your (our!) hero. I'd did not find him friendly and it was not for the first time. Oke, maybe I have nothing to expect but the contempt that I felt a couple of times, I don't think was necesary. Tell me, is Brian something different to Lee en Jim? They where this time no different but that's maybe the situation and my 'reaction' but I expierienced them to be very warm en welcoming on other occasions..
I seem to have another vision on what I could aspect of persons I like. I hope it is possible on this forum to discuss it without other people be offended by it..

Hey gang,
I gotta admit that before and after every show I go to, I go outside/backstage/etc the show to see if i can say g'day to the band. It's part of the way I am. I just want to thank them personally for the enjoyment that they've given me. But, I gotta respect them as well. The energy they put out on stage drains them, they don't want to hear some guy come up and go blah blah blah. That;s the difference between a fan and a stalker!!
I just wanna enjoy the show, and if I get ta meet them...bonus. I don't pissed off, no reason to, I bought a ticket to see the show, not to meet the band!!
If I get a chance to meet the Cats here next year, bonus! But I can tell ya, I'm gonna lap in the atmosphere and music like I did 18 years ago and just enjoy it!!!!! THAT'S why I bought my tickets.
Cheers Pete.
P.S. All you ebay scum that'll get autographs to sell, karma WILL get ya!!

people will wait after a great concert for their heroes.
People did it the last 50 years and they will do it for the next 100 years.
Most of us are fans but not like teenager who are going to the backstreets boys.
If i have the chance to meet these 3 cool guys, i would do it for sure.
But i will not wait for hours at the stage. (maybe i will check it for safety for a few minutes... Suspect )

So i don`t know what was in the Helsinki Thread and i don´t understand your problem, Jean.
There are thousands of fans in Europe going to the cats. Most of us are ok, but maybe some are a little stressful and think they have to earn more attention.
Who cares.

HAHA! Rickabilly, people DO feel entitled to personal attention from their idols after waiting all day or driving hundreds of miles to see their favorite band.

Yes, I did start this thread to complain about the complainers! What a bunch of whiners. You can complain all you want, BUT I CAN'T???

One thing I have to say is that Kid Setzer has the right attitude. Thats nice to see. Maybe y'all can learn from that 19 year old. Smile

Hi everybody... Intriguer and curious post Jean Genie, i really liked what everybody spoken...

I remember the show in 1990 in Brazil… I'm 13 years old, sang in my church and Stray Cats deviated my mind for the world hahahaha Smile remembers that it had a promotion in a radio in my city I bound 500 times and I obtained tickets, was of bus with my father for almost 2,000 km pra to see the show, and I had assay in the weekend in my church, I lay pastor that was sick hahahahaha was amazing show, I was for a club that the Brian was and nor we remember in them to take off photos, I was euphoric, my father, much disorganized forgot the cam it in the luggage… I don't know accurately but the important one is to have perpetual memories, and everyone know what is better, if we were young, the fact to see and to be together is enough.

All the best,

Kati

I am going to put my grain of salt, Jean Genie,
let us be a fan all right but not stupid,
Cats does not belong to us,
Cats are in our heart,

They give us already enormously with their music.
The happiness which we feel before, during and after a concert thanks to them it is already magnificent.
They are with us throughout our life thanks to their music and to the energy for us and it is necessary to thank them for it.
Jean Genie a cool cat becomes and you will feel better. cheers

Dear Ben,

My only point is that us fans are not entitled to anything more than the best show the band can perform. If you choose to wait for hours for autographs etc... and don't get them. Too bad.

You amuse me at how angry you are!

Thanks!

There is nothing wrong with a person hoping to meet a musical hero.

I have had the good fortune to meet Brian many times over the past 25 years by waiting before and after shows and by chance at Disneyland once. One time before a show that my mother was going to, I asked Brian if he would dedicate a song to my mother and he did! Brian is a total class act! Brian has always been the nicest person when talking to him. The main thing to remember is just be polite to the artist, don't be pushy.

Good luck to all that want to meet Brian and the Cats and remember not to be pushy when you meet them, always be polite.

Have A Gretsch Day !

Haha! Wow, I have read this forum and others about the Cats and other bands for a long time. Its amazing how you people like Pink Pirate Kitty (or some name like that) can criticize the way the Stray Cats look. (Nobody attacked her like this!) There are others that pick them apart like a bunch of vultures (on this forum and others).

Thats ok, Ben? If YOU don't like something, it's ok say it. To reiterate my point (if you read and UNDERSTOOD my first post, which I don't think was so mean) is that us fans deserve nothing more from the artist than a show.

Yeah, if you happen to bump into somebody you idolize... cool! But if you stalk them, I think its really rude and pathetic. Lets put this into layman's terms. What if a bunch of people followed you to work, bugged you before you went into the office, waited all day for you to come out, followed you home, and waited outside to once again bug you for something.

I know most of you won't understand this, but I have a right to post my opinions too, whether you like it or not.
