| Hey people.
Maybe some people here with a good memory can help me out with this one. When the Stray Cats played in Brussels in 1989 or 1990 Brian Setzer did two or three songs solo. Just Brian and his acoustic guitar. If I'm not mistaken those songs were Ricky Nelson (Lonesome town??) and Buddy Holly covers. But can't recall that 100%. Is there someone on this list that can help me out with this one and even more important, were those tracks ever released on vinyl, tape, cd whatever???? Would love to have'em cause those were the highlights of the gig

| Sorry to disappoint you but there was no Ricky Nelson song played. Unless you're confused about the place/year.
I do think that you're referring to the June 17th, 1990 show in Brussels when they (the 3 of them actually but it was an acoustic part to the set) played Eddie Cochran's 'Cut Accross Shorty' and Buddy Holly's 'Well... All Right'.
And it was the highlight of the show for me too!

| Oh and they were never released. Officially anyway. I did have a vhs tape of the gig but it died a long time ago I also loved the intro that day, can't remember what it was but it was some kind of 30's gangster movie theme or something with a couple of lights scanning quickly through the stage and audience. Then the Cats came on stage and rushed through a mad Rumble in Brighton. Good times! | |

| No need to shame. I once read an interview with brian setzer when he was asked what he thought about fans recording concerts. And Tommy correct me if I'm wrong but his answer was that he had nog problem with that as long as the concerts were not exploited in a commercial way. So if you could ever find a friend, fellow belgium who has the concert still on vhs you would do me an enormous favour.

And to myself! Unfortunately, I'm the only Rockabilly lover I know Btw, I know I didn't commit any crime owning that tape, I even recorded the show on audio tape myself that day. But it died a long time ago too. That's the plus side of the cd, they last much longer. Oh and I'll have a teacher moment: the country is called Belgium, the inhabitants belgians. Just like Dutch people aren't called "keiskoppen" (that's Brussels dialect for Cheeseheads - or indeed in dutch 'kaaskoppen'

Chris Yeah! I have never profited from my (shall we say) unofficial Brian Setzer collection. I am a bit of a freak though, cos everytime I acquire a bootleg, i buy another official release. I just think it's fair that the right people get the royalties they deserve. I do think that The Stray Cats missed an opportunity though. There is so much illegal material and little official live stuff, yet they were a seriously good and sought after live band. THAT should have been exploited more for them. Lorelei, Lyceum, (well many gigs) should and could have been released for commercial gain for the business. Hmmm Mikey Goldsmith

| He did a version of Hello, Mary Lou with the trio back during the 2004 BSO Japan tour. I'm a big Ricky Nelson and James Burton fan, so any of the more rockin' Ricky tunes would be fine with me. Those songs aren't dated - they're timeless.

| Truly underappreciated and generally known solely for his "hits", Ricky Nelson's vast archive of seldom heard tunes is a rockabilly treasure trove which really opened my eyes and ears when I discovered them for the first time.
I've mentioned this before, but near the top of my fantasy whish list is a Rockabilly Riot Volume 2 from Setzer celebrating the music of Ricky Nelson and Buddy Holly (no, I'm not forgettin Gene or Eddie........there's gotta be a Volume 3 & 4, right?)

| A bit of trivia:
Ricky Nelson's bassist at the time of the fatal crash was Rick Intveld, who also perished on Dec. 31, 1985.
He was the older brother of James Intveld, and was actually named after Ricky Nelson by their music-loving father.
