Recommend A Rockin' Tune Or Band Empty
PostSubject: Recommend A Rockin' Tune Or Band   Recommend A Rockin' Tune Or Band EmptyTue Mar 11, 2008 8:31 pm

Inspired by the 3 song game,I thought it would be good to recommend some great ROCKIN' bands or songs that are at the top of your current playlist.

For starters
Ray Collins Hot-Club from Germany are a fantastic big band.Check out Bye Bye Paris or Bopland.
Rudy La Crioux & The All Stars are my favourite group on the circuit.Big Fool is on my Myspace player.(Click www. link below)
Really into Ella Mae Morse of late.Oakie Boogie has been covered by many including Crazy Cavan.
Bill Haley-Mary,Mary Lou is a great track I hadn't heard until recently.
Built 4 Speed's Psycho cover of Personal Jesus.
Junior Brown & The Beach Boys-409
And the classic Charlie Feathers-Bottle To The Baby is getting some hammer on my i-Pod just now.

As there are so many countries represented on the board,it will be interesting to see the wide variety. Here's hoping for a few hot tips.
Cheers
Steve

This is a great idea. From the three song game, I've already checked out a couple of bands/artists that I really liked who I wasn't really familiar with or hadn't heard in years.

Here's my offering for this thread:

Back Door Slam. Here's their myspace page link:

http://www.myspace.com/backdoorslam

and here's their website:

http://www.backdoorslam.com/

They're a three piece band (teenagers!). Their myspace page offers only samplings of their songs. I really liked them when I saw them open for George Thorogood. Kinda reminded me a bit of Eric Clapton. Their tag line is "I heard the spirit of Jimi Hendrix...it was a band called Back Door Slam". Check 'em out!

HEY GANG!!
Let's go with local Rockabilly outfit 'THE SAUCERMEN ' and local Jump Blues outfit " JAM JETS ". Great players but probably enjoy them more so because my bass player plays for both bands as well!!
Next I would have to say Adelaide's premier Swing band " LUCKY SEVEN ". Awesome musicians and all of them available to see on myspace.com.
Cheers Pete.

Check out The Tonemasters at www.myspace.com/tonemasters. Cool videos of Baby Blue Eyes, Blue Days Black Nights & a Rockin' Blues track that was made up on the spot when a blues harp player joined the Band on stage.

They arent rockabilly bands, but Irecommend the Polyphonic Spree, VHS Or Beta, Rogue Wave and The Eels. More Pink Floyd/ Velvet Underground/ REM inspired

Hey rockabilly guy, If you like Ray Collins Hot Club

Check out Cherry Casino & The Gamblers http://www.myspace.com/cherrycasino
also from Germany.

More good Brit bands

The Blue Flames
Bill Fadden
Slim Slip & The Sliders
Big Boy Bloater
The Roomates
Darrel Higham
Paul Ansells No9

These in my opinion are the best Brit bands on the scene at the moment.

There's a really good aussie band getting around called the Detonators. They play alot of Rockabilly with some straight up blues, roots and rock n roll mixed in.

Got a typical guitar, upright and drummer set-up with a harp playing front man that sounds like Buddy Holly. Good stuff, check em out.

Have you all heard Mario Bradley,an amazing artist who has had a few cd's out?He recorded the boppin' classics Boppin' To Grandfather's Clock and Bip Bop Baby.
He also does some good jive tunes and plays all the instruments himself,a real talent check him out at www.mariobradley.co.uk
You can't fail to be impressed

Try Heavy Trash - singer is Jon Spencer of Blues Explosion fame -is a bit like Robert Gordon at times but a bit edgier.

I've always felt Jimmie Vaughan was a good fit for Brian Setzer fans. His first solo album, Strange Pleasures is a great listen.
