| In Australia there's a game show called RocKwiz, and at the start they ask the contestants either what was the first concert they ever attended or what was the first record they ever bought with their own money. Following on from the "first concert" thread HERE, what was the first record you ever bought with your own money? (If this has already been asked, just direct me to it and I'll go there in shame...) As I mentioned previously, my first single was Bennie and the Jets by Elton John. My family bought me Rant n' Rave and Built For Speed, but I paid for the second copy of Built, I think, after I scratched the first one. | |

| I was given some money for Christmas and the first record I ever bought was "The Beatles 1967-1970" on Capitol. I had received "1962-1966" from Santa and could not get enough Beatles. That was December 1975. I was 11 years old.
He's a very clean old man, Tommy
First single (45) I ever bought was "Island Girl" by Elton John. Second was "Sky High" by Jigsaw. | |

| Hey Gang, I think the first record I bought with my own money was actually a cassette, because we didn't have a record player! I think it was the Split Enz's "I Got You". The first album I bought was Pat Benetar's one with "Love is a Battlefield" song on it. Cheers Pete. | |

| "We are the champions" by Queen
Still have it, and 6 years later got to see the band on what would turn out to be their very last gig in the USA. (Yes, sursprisingly they never came back after '83)

| For me, it was "Mind Games" by John Lennon - my second CD. I had received my first CD for Xmas, it was a double disc live of Fabrizio Da André, an Italian folk singer. | |

| Buddy Holly - 20 Golden Greats (the one with 'Buddy Holly Lives' spraypainted on the cover). The record store had to special order it. It was 1979, I was 12. | |

| The Beatles' "Rock'n'Roll Music" (a double LP), back in 1975 when I was about six years old. I only played it in our living room, on my parents' new stereo system. They gave me their old one when they bought it (along with a stack of old singles; Little Richard, Elvis, Beatles etc), but they didn't want me to play a brand new album on this crappy, old thing. Which I'm grateful for today, 'cause the record is still as good as new | |

| I was corrupted at an early age. for my 6th birthday, my parents bought me a record player and some kids records (monster mash etc.) My uncle, in an obvious attempt to undermine any chance for me to grow up 'normal' bought me Led Zeppelin IV and Aerosmiths Toys in the Attic. The first record I bought with my own money some years later was some record called 'Alive' by an obscure new york band called KISS.
wonder what ever happened to those guys?

| My minds a little fuzzy but I think it went something like........... Iggy and the stooges in the mid 70s Ian Dury and the blockheads I remember they used to play one of their songs on Dr. Demento somewhere after that the Clash, The Buggles in the summer of 79 and then a single of the stray cats at licorice pizza in the import section imagine that I still got it | |
