500 die-hard members of a dedicated message board scattered all around the world are hardly a measure of how successful a tour would be. As the Fabulous Thunderbirds once said, "How Do You Spell Love? M-O-N-E-Y." The best way you can show your support is to circulate the word among anyone you can think of who would want to see Stray Cats, and help give the Cats a sold-out tour. Now that the tour's been announced as a farewell tour, it would be marketing suicide to back away from that now. People who are making their travel plans, and ready to pounce on tickets the instant they go on sale in these troubled financial times could feel a bit used if they come out and say, "Oh, we were just kidding" at some point before the end of the tour. It would be much better strategy for Stray Catsto come back a few years from now (instead of 5-15) talking about how blown away they were on the great Euro tour of 2008, and that they just couldn't stay away.

That being said, it has to move them on some level to see the impact the words "farewell tour" have had on the Setzer/Stray Cats community. Keep showing that passion. That is, after all, one of the main reasons we're gathering here.

That would be kind of like if they announced that Billy Joel was playing the final concert ever at Shea Stadium... the tickets sell out in 40 minutes, so they decide to add another show two nights later... so now THAT'S the final concert ever at Shea Stadium...

Really? Selling out a stadium in 40 minutes led to another show being added? I could have sworn it was the 12 people who frequent the Shea Stadium message board droning on and on about not wanting a "farewell concert" at Shea.

Know-it-all? Hardly... This is a discussion forum, where a variety of viewpoints beyond "I agree" and "me too" are welcome. Just because I type more words doesn't make my opinions more valid than anyone else's.

Andy, fight the good fight. I wish you all the best with your petition/protest. I happen to agree with the sentiment that the Stray Cats should not rule out future projects, tours, etc. I would even sign such a petition. This seems like the 8th or 9th thread dwelling on the "Farewell" aspect of the tour rather than being excited that there's a tour at all. For 12 years, (1992-2004), there was nothing. The US was denied a tour for 15 years. I would think a Stray Cats tour would be cause for celebration. But I do understand the sadness surrounding the finality of a farewell. Personally, I take it in stride a bit, as me and countless other fans of Brian's music had reconciled years ago that the Stray Cats were over in 1993. Anything after that was (and is) a fantastic and most welcome surprise.

There's certainly room for both the farewell laments and the tour excitement here. I just offered an opinion that a great turnout for all of the tour appearances would send the strongest message. Maybe posting or "pinning" one unified "Please Don't Go" thread would be the most effective way for those who wish to continue their pleas. Perhaps the best time for that thread would be closer to the tour, when the fan enthusiasm is at its peak level.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go throw a baseball...

I think personally that Brian must still have some sort of feeling for playing as a cat because why would he bother with the trio thing? he always seems to go back to those roots ,even when he plays with the orchestra ,he always puts a few in with the trio. Do you think its Brian that wants to finish the stray cats or is it the rest of the cats (jim,lee)The hard thing to swallow is the band dont look like old rockers trying to do their stuff like some older bands.I think if anything their image has got better as they have matured (they look f*****n INCREDIBLE still)excuse my language. I suppose I'm just ranting on again because like most fans I dont want the Stray Cats to ever finish properly(for ever that is) They just dont make bands like the stray cats anymore and at 50 you've got to have something like the cats to keep you feeling young (after all the body's had it) .
Im just up for it if everyone else wants to try.

Agree totally with Rickabillys earlier comment about spreading the word. If and when they announce Copenhagen or Hamborg, there will probably be about 8 of us going to the gig. Myself and one other who really dig the Cats, the other 6 because of rumours about the last European tour.

The only problem, as far as i can see, with selecting a career in the public eye, is that said public feel they have a right to make business decisions on an artistes behalf. Just like all of you guys, I don't ever want to see the Stray Cats disband, but, they have an agenda, especially after all these years. I wjust wish them love, peace and sincere happiness in their private and public lives, whatever they select to do. I feel sadness, it's the end of a very long era, but I also feel closure. There has been much press about fallouts etc. Not really fair. Let me ask you, when you were 19 years old, were YOU possibly unreasonable? Were YOU guilty of making young persons decisions? The answer is a resounding YES. However, you weren't in a famous rock band where every comment was public domain.

Brian, James, Leon... Thank YOU so very much for your influence on this simple English kid from Sheffield. you have inspired and moulded my formation of musical life. Because of you guys, I have discovered Rockabilly. And also, as a direct result of pying attention to you, I have moulded my differention on good and bad music in the RnR genre.

And I don't think they're done adding shows yet (from what I've heard). Lordy, how many last plays at Shea can there be?? Here's hoping a ton of scalpers get stuck with tickets, or have to drop them in price so they make very little...and the real fans can get them at (gasp!) face value!!

I'm with Rickabilly on this one. It's their lives, their careeers and their decision. I tend to skip over all of the posts decrying their decision. To me it seems like useless bellyaching and self pity. I'm just thankful for the shows I've seen, the albums I have and continue to listen to, and all the other great music that I've been exposed to as a result of my love for The Cats.

Well, I don't know that I would classify it as self-pity or belly-aching. It's just one of the ways the passionate fans of Stray Cats choose to express themselves. I would rather get excited over the upcoming tour first, and then, as the tour draws to an end, say, "Wow. What a great ride. I hope they'll reconsider getting back together sometime, but if they don't, what a great way to go out!" But I won't begrudge someone their right to say, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" And plead for this not to be "goodbye." It's when people get angry and try to tell the Cats how wrong they are, and say, "I don't understand. Why? Why are you doing this? You can't do this!" that I wish the enthusiasm would be expressed differently.

Maybe we all have to progress through the stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance. For example, I believe Budgie is about to enter the stage of "Bargaining" by offering the boys a "pizza sammich."
