I mean their videos were played on MTV, was there an interview recorded for MTV as well?..

| The Cats were interviewed on MTV (when the 'M' stood for MUSIC) loads of times between 1981-1984. Brian was also on there from time to time from 1984-1988. Martha Quinn did some cool interviews with the Cats back in the day. Ahhh.....MTV.....what a wasteland of nonsense it is now.

| Bob,
You're talking about the good 'ol days of MTV, but you're in Sweden. I'm curious to know from our fans outside the US, did you folks have the US version of MTV, or were there music video channels in your countries? Or did you have select hours of programming set aside for music videos? How did you folks in the UK, France, Germany, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Spain, etc. get to see your favorite artists on TV during the music video explosion of the 1980s?

Wall of Voodoo-billy Every euro-country got an own MTV channel with local hosts. We have several Music channels but most of them show only all the stuff the kids want to see now. On pay TV stations it is possible to watch and listen to different Musicians and not only Chartbreaker. But Music of Brian Setzer, Stray cats, Lee Rocker or other great musicians are not often or never in TV. When the BSO Hype came to Europe (end of 90ies), BSO was in TV Shows in Germany. But now....i think the same stuff like in the US. Madonna with Justin Timberlake... Or here in Europe: the Take That Reunion!!!! (it`s a boy band) But thank god we have DVD. I just watched a Stray Cat Show from 1983 in Germany. "RockPalast" What a show! Cats at their best, with Dave Edmunds as a special guest. Great weekend, I got a week off and tomorrow ride with my bike to an Island in the Baltic Sea. That´s also a kind of Rock`n Roll

| I'm not sure the Cats were "at their best" in august 1983 : the beat was a little slow if you compare it with 81 & 82... | |

| I'm pretty sure Australia has its own version of MTV - but I'm not 100% because I don't have cable.

maybe, for me it was a great show. amazing location, 3 cool guys on stage and the crowd of 83. I enjoyed to watch the show. The only negative thing was the TV-Sound. It was not very good. Guitar a little to low. And too much slap noise of the bass. But hey...1983...

| The slap noise suits me fine and the Cats (very) good mood is a real pleasure. Brian's orange hair is funny ! I just have a little problem with the beat and it seems it's the same thing on other '83 gigs (Toronto for ex.) | |

Kid. No Cable? Seriously? I'm sorry Kid. Reruns of Skippy must be hard to find without cable.

I will check it out and let you know. But hey, everybody gets older and everybody change the style a few times over the years, the outfit and who knows what more. Me, you, and everybody else. Why not the Cats??? Anyway, the really important thing is, I`m back from the island and I GOT MY TICKET FOR THE HAMBURG SHOW!!!!!

-Tommy (who loves the radio star) I saw the cats here in Holland on mtv getting intervieved by ray coke and they also performed 2 or 3 songs. 1 of the songs was lust 'n' love. so even in the 90's they were on mtv.Indeed is wasteland of nonsense now. I think even got the interview on a tape somewhere. Cheers Mike.

| the rockpalast 81 is one of my favorite performances but there are many in 81 they were in the most honest prime at that time. but storm the embassy, drink that bottle, ubangi, wow !
does anyone know of a place to find more old video performances before say 91?
in regards to lee's slap bass sound: in the early days it was clanky and not very musical but i chalk that up to lee learning the ropes. these days getting good slap bass is much easier that technology for amplification of the upright has been through a couple of generations of trial and error.
used to be bassists just had the option of a transducer wedged to contact the top like the old de'armond from the 50's which bill black used or a magnetic for steel strings like on an electric and forget about good upright preamps in the late 70's early 80's.
