Help with chords.

Having been playing about a week now, i knwo these chords D,E,C,G,Gm,F,A.
Im practicing these constsantly and i am still a little slow in getting to D and F. Should i keep practicing these chords until i get them perfected? or should i keep practicing but start learning some new ones as well, say some barre chords?

Although there is tons of advice available on the net practice routines etc.

My advice simplified would be play often, keep it fun find a song with a few of the chords you are practicing and if you venture outside of those chords to learn bar Chords Scales etc. that seems fine everyone is different and its what you feel comfortable with. study how you move your fingers on chord changes practice keeping tempo slower and more accurate at tempo in my opinion is better that hurried, sloppy whithout keeping time or Rythem

Play what feels comfortable, but play often is my advice. Personally, I'd try to perfect, for use of a better word, the chords you know and maybe add another each week.
By the way, the next chord you should learn should be B7, in my opinion.
Learning chords is a mechanical skill, thus it takes times as your hand and forearm muscles develop.

The first teacher I had taught me new chords in the context of progressions, so I would learn them for a purpose - namely, to play a song.

Starting on acoustic guitar in the late 70's meant learning John Denver - Take Me Home Country Roads was one of my first songs. So I learned G, C, D, and Em (key of G). D7 is also used a lot in songs in the key of G.

You already have the key of A (chords = A, D, and E)

You also already have the key of C (chords = C, F, and G) You might want to pick up G7 - it will come in handy.

You also have the key of D (chords = D, G, A)

Pete's advice on B7 is good. It will allow you to play songs in the key of E (chords = E, A, B7).

Starting as an adult means you have a LOT more hand strength than I did as a wee lad. I don't think I could really play a barre chord properly for almost a year, if I'm remembering it right. You may be able to start on barre chords soon. It sounds like you already know a lot, though. You've only had the thing for about a week - you don't want your brains to come squirtin' out your ears! Find some songs to strum. It's fun, and it's a good way to practice your changes.

AAAAh! That B7 is a complete ...well you get the idea.

Hey. My first guitar teacher taught me to practice changing back and forth between two chords 10 times. Do that several times and you'll own those chords (and the change between the two). Increase your speed of changing as you can.

all i say is you learn one bar chord you've learned them all! kinda....
