OUR BAND.... Empty
PostSubject: OUR BAND....   OUR BAND.... EmptySun Jun 22, 2008 8:56 am

Hey guys,
Alot of us are in bands, have been in bands or just play music with a bunch of guys or gals.....
So maybe we should share our band stories, some pix, promote our local live music scene and pool our resources to make the music and lifestyle thrive for many years to come...
I'll get the ball runnin'....
"Salvy and da Hired Help" came about from pure coincidence. Salvy and myself had been school friends from the age of 15, but as we grew older and followed different paths, we lost contact with each other. He went on to front such bands as "Stolen Waters", "Chain Winder", "Funky Monks" and "Funk Me". The last 2 obvious Red Hot Chilli Pepper tribute bands with a great amount of respect and following, and touring regionally and interstate. In fact they did the RHCP after show party where Chad and the guitarist before Dave Novarro (sorry his name escapes me at the mo) got up and jammed with them! Lucky he took photos! To cut it short, egos and drugs split the band apart, as well as his fathers death (whom had won singing competitions in his homeland of Argentina, and gave Salvy his love of singing), until a chance meeting at a mutual friends party rekindled our friendship. Francis (of "Jam Jets", "The Saucermen", "Rock and the Flat Tops" and "Finger Poppin' Daddies" fame) and I used to knock around nearly 20 years ago on the rockabilly scene. We saw each other ocassionily over time, kept up with each others bands and realized we had other friends in common, including working opposite our first drummers wife! To cut another story short, we all realized that a band that we could put together as a 1 set opener for other bands and a way to play for fun was gonna work perfect for us, as we have family and work commitments. We're still trying out drummers as our first moved nearly 200 km away, our second wasn't in the best of health and we love him too much to see him not get himself better and currentely we're getting our 3rd drummer up to scratch. Won't be long now, and we still do the jam nights as a band every 4-5 weeks at "The Gaslight Tavern". Myself, well my claim to fame was a short lived band called "Hep Cats" (guess what that name was a take off!), that fell apart after our bass player (and my former best friend), jumped ship to play in another band! Sound familiar! hahaha!! I reckon I've heard that happen so many times it should have it's own term! After that I spent alot of time jammin with different people and styles, but my love of rockabilly and especially Stray Cats music, always had me wanting to start another band.....

OUR BAND.... Empty
PostSubject: Re: OUR BAND....   OUR BAND.... EmptySun Jun 22, 2008 1:04 pm

Okay, so my biggest challenge today (it's the weekend) will be to see if I can add the link to this posting. It wasn't until last year that I got DSL; my buddy installed it, turned around and said, "Welcome to the 90's."
That'll give you an idea of my prowess on this thing...
Anyway, the band is called "The Burners" - big shock, huh? We've been around in various incarnations for many (MANY) years playing in the NY, NJ area. While I deserted and moved to Florida we still stay in touch and try to record by passing wav files across the country. We'll be upgrading our toys in the next few months and hope to have something finished (10 tune CD) before the year is over.
I can honestly say that the guys who have been in the band have been among the best friends I'll ever know. I met the bass player in college, he had a buddy from his high school bands that joined up with us - the first time I met him he was wearing a George Harrison t-shirt, he was definitely in!
Twenty five years later, this guitar player will be performing at my wedding. We've all stuck together through band break ups, line up changes, marriages, family losses... an amazing collection of people that I've been blessed to know. Oh... and I think we were pretty good for a while there!
So, check out the site; hopefully you'll enjoy. We're not a rockabilly band by any means; but I think the foundation came from the stuff that we all love.
Thanks!

Aww you mean one of the guys who were only very short in the band.
There were
DeWayne "Blackbyrd" McKnight
Jesse Tobias
and Arik Marshall

should be one of them.

For my band stuff:
I don't play in a real band, only in what's supposed to be our school's big band.
But we have like 4 Trumpet players, (one of them lives in Montreal right now), one is a genious, one is good, and one can't even read music sheets.
We have one very good Sax player who can play everything from Baritone to tenor or something^^
One Clarinet also.
Then we have a good drummer, a good bass player and 3 GUITAR PLAYERS, but one of us doesn't come regularly anymore.
Also our teacher plays everything from tuba to flute.
We play alot of funk stuff like "living for the city" or "Shaft"
but also normal jazz stuff like "All of me"
it's lots of fun but we're just not enough people to have a really tight big band.

greets from Munich

Hey Bear,
thanks for the kind words. Some of the recordings aren't really up to par; but I had to get some content on the site. Hopefully they will all be replaced with new tunes by the end of 08. You guys will be the first to know.

Hey burner1,
Nice ta meet ya!
I really enjoyed your stuff, maybe not quite what I expected, but great stuff. Tom Petty an influence? Maybe a little Jason and the Scorchers as well? Nice Tele as well.
Support local live music!! Cheers Pete.

Hey Pete, nice to meet you as well.
Yeah, Petty is definitely an influence. I'm amazed that he is still writing great tunes after all these years. I ran out of things to say about 20 years ago Very Happy
Good call on Jason and the Scorchers. We covered their stuff very early on... the guitar player I was working with had that sound nailed; and the tunes were great. From the Dylan cover "Absolutely Sweet Marie" to "White Lies" and a cool tune called "Broken Whiskey Glass," those songs really got people moving.
The tele was something I picked up because I needed it for a couple of tunes I was recording; and a buddy in the local music shop was tempting me to buy it on a weekly basis. After playing semi hollow bodies exclusively I picked up the tele and it took over. I probably use it 40 to 50% of the time. It's also much easier to play on the couch! I felt a little self conscious with it. Playing a blonde tele in New Jersey draws a few too many Bruce comments. Loved his tunes; but definitely wasn't the direction I was going in. My other main guitar is a Gibson ES135 with P90's, again the influence of the local music shop - a great guy named Kevin who could entertain for hours with his Merle Travis picking.
Thanks for having a listen

Hi Pete, cool pics. Wink
You looking in fact really tall. The 6120 looks on you like a telecaster on me...
Any Soundsample of your band?

For moment i`m playing in a Rock-Band. We play all that stuff of the 70ies and a little 60ies.
(ZZ Top, Stones, ACDC, Free, Deep Purple)

We play mostly in the North of Germany.
We are really friends and like to play together.
we know we don´t become Popstars anymore...so we play the music we like and where we like to play.
But we PLAY!!! bounce
No Computersounds or samples or whatever they all use these days. Suspect
In every show we have a little R`nR Corner (my idea).
People like it very much if we play Route 66 in Swinging-Billy-Style or "crazy little thing" or some CCR tunes.
If somebody want to be a (myspace)friend of us, check out www.myspace.com/rockbusterhh

I also played for about 9-10 years in cool Rock`n Roll band here in Hamburg. With a hornsection, piano, harp. Whole lotta shakin all night long. Very cool jobs, very cool venues. was fun.
But it`s over since 2 years. At the end the quality went down so we deceided to quitt.
I played sometimes as a sideman or as a temporary player in some R`nR- or Elvis-Coverbands, but for the moment i`m looking for a new R´nR Band. It is not easy, but we will see...

ok...who`s next

Hey brett,
Hahaha..not too tall about 184-5 cm...used to hit the gym...definately not anymore!! hahaha!!

Brett, we don't play all straight rockabilly as well, too much good music out there to not appreciate it. Classic bands will always be classic because of their music, so why not enjoy it?
Our bass player has been playing in another band "Jam Jets" for the last 12 years, jump blues style led by a wicked harp player Roj Caffone. By the way, Roj has won the Golden Harp at the Tamworth Festiaval the last 2 years runnin, going for number 3!!!
I love The Cult, so we do Lil Devil (my favourite guitar song), Wildflower and Love Removal Machine. We do Hush by Deep Purple, etc. The point I'm trying to make is, play what ya like, it'll make ya happier and keep on playing because you're enjoying it.
Cheers Pete.

I play for Hillbilly Casino. we play rockandrollpunkrockapsychoswinghonkytonkabilly. in other words, we're musically schizophrenic. we will play anywhere as long as we don't lose money on it. Yes I mean anywhere. we'll play a barmitzvah in iceland, so long as the expenses are paid. We have two full length CD's out, both are available on our website, and soon they'll both be on itunes. We were lucky enough to open 7 shows on the 2006 BSO xmas tour. We play ALOT, over 200 shows last year. Please be our friend.

Hey Pete

The band Ive played with does standards.......not the bar standards (mustang sally and the like) but songs like My Way, Tenderly, Summertime, St louis Blues. Its great experience but not exactly what MY band would play Laughing

I may have told this before but the name alka setzer comes from when I was introduced on stage with my big orange guitar I was introduced as Brian Setzers brother Alka Setzer.....for those outside the USA alkaselser is a medicine for heartburn/ stomach ailments. (good thing i can take a joke i guess)

I live near St Louis Mo in USA and just starting to look for a couple guys to do some 50's Rock Country and Blues. Im by no means a stellar guitarist or singer but I feel like the more I play with others and play live the better I get.

I currently play a Hollowbody Ibanez through a Peavey Classic 50 (sweet sounding amp). I keep telling my wife if I NEED a Gretsch for christmas!!!

I also mix sound for our church band, and love doing that.

Talk to ya all later

no he didn't intend to throw it, he was trying to spin it around his neck, (see here at 1:31) but the strap broke. The guitar was fine after that, but then last month he broke the neck off of it, and just got it back from the shop this week.
