PostSubject: G'day from Pony65K   G'day from Pony65K EmptySun Jul 13, 2008 6:31 pm

Hi all.

Another newbie here. My name is René and I'm in South Australia. I've been a fan of anything BS since the early Cats days. I'm so excited that the Cats are coming to Australia in 2009, can't wait. Anyway, I don't play guitar, but I'm going to take the plunge and learn. I can't listen to Brian play anymore without giving it a shot.

Happy to be here and ready to rock.

Regards,

René (Pony65K)

Hey Rene`,
Cool, do you go to any of the Saucermen or Jam Jet gigs?
The Adelaide Bowls Club gigs are great, at least 140+ people to each gig so far. We're playing in the next one on August 16.
I've been in and out of the scene for 20+ years, from The Exeter and Austral and Rob Roy Hotel days, the Pink Cadillac Club, and my favourites Limbo, Le Rox, Rocket Bar, KO, Fat Willy's and Cargo Club days. Long, long time ago.
How's about yourself?
Cheers Pete.

Hi Pete.

Man have you brought back some memories with those old clubs? I hit some of those in my youth, though I wasn't a big club man/boy. I'm not big on who's who in the band scene in Adelaide. I tend to hang out more in cafes or pubs as opposed to clubs. I'm not a big noise fan, my ears hate it, the ringing drives me nuts (hey, Pete Townsend get away with it). If you see some twit at a concert with ear plugs, that would probably be me. I'm definitely hanging out for the Cats goodbye tour hitting our shores. Alter Bridge is coming soon and may head out to see them. If you don't know who they are, they're 3 quarters of Creed. Great rock sound, proably heavier than Creed. I can't even tell you the last Band I saw live, may be Kiss, Veruca Salt, Evanescence.

Hey Rene`,
I run Manto Cafe` on The Parade, you'll catch me there Thurs, Fri and Sat nites, pop in and say g'day. The Gaslite Tavern on Chief Street at Brompton has Open Mike Nite every Fri from 9PM onwards, but can be a little noisy at times. The Adel Bowls is not too loud and is positioned so you can also sit/stand side on to the band so as not to be too loud if you want. Good value $10 for 3 bands!

Hey Rene`,
NICE guitar! Congrats, now do it proud and enjoy!
Saucermen are rockabilly in the vein of Stray Cats/Meteors kinda they have 2 cd's out, and the Jam Jets arejump blues like Rod Piazza/ little Charlie, they have 2 cd's out as well. The bass player has been a mate of mine for 20+ years and plays in our band. The Jam Jets are playing August 15 @ Bacchus Wine Bar if you're interested. Don't forget us and the Saucermen and the Hoodoo Voodoo Dolls on August 16!
Cheers Pete.

Hey Pete Smile

After paying for this guitar I would say something cheap cheap cheap!! Any ideas, I'm open to suggestions. When I was playing bass I just used a practice amp which I blew up. After that I toned down the noise and played through my stereo. I wont be doing that with this guitar.

hey Rene,
I use a Vox15R as a practice amp, I think it's great and under $250. I reckon some of Line 6 amps are ok too, they give you a whole bunch of different sounds for the money.
Bring your guitar along and plug into diff models, and you'll be anle to tell what ya like.

Looks like I gotta learn some chords first or I'm gonna look like a total d**khead plugging in a guitar and waiting for something to happen Embarassed Any good links to online places to check some amps out?

What part of Adelaide you live in? See Ceceres Music on Magill Road, Sizemore Music on Glen Osmond Road is where I bought my Vox from. Twang Central in Gilbert Street is owned by 2 mates of mine, they specialize in vintage and high end stuff. Don't worry about playin chords to try out for sound, just do it.

I Live out Magil way, so they're all close enough.

Thanks mate.

Funny, thought I'd recognise someone with a weird shaped head Wink I look nothing like the guitar, although I'm as skinny Smile
