Hey,

I have been lurking a couple days' now and reading and such. When I saw the post about Horton Heat, and how many of you like him, I thought about one of my other favorite bands. Southern Culture on the Skids. Based in NC, they do some wild stuff - maybe "surf-billy"? They put on a great show, too. Check em out at www.scots.com. They've been around forever and are mostly a touring band with several CDs out and only one minor hit, CamelWalk. They fall right in with the stuff you guys are after.

The guitarist, Rick Miller, is an excellent guitarist in his own right. And has some wild old Danelectros and other weird stuff.

Stand up drummer and a female bassist with some of the tallest hair you'll find in the 21st century.

SCOTS are awesome, I've done several shows with them both in BR549 and HBC. fantastic band.

yea they are pretty good i havent got the chance to see them yet but they are relaly good.

From a fan's perspective, they are a great bunch. They work the crowd, they stay afterwards to talk and sign and have photos taken. Usually at 3 am..... affraid

From a former musician's POV, the music isn't especially complicated, but the way it sounds to me is pretty awesome. And the things they write about..... lol

If you haven't seen them, you MUST! They play everything at a rockin FAst tempo. Way faster than the CDs. Plus the audience participation parts are very entertaining. the clothes they wear are over the top. Just a great show all the way around.

And that must be pretty cool to spend an evening hanging out with them before/after a show.

not complicated, but Mary Huff is a seriously amazing bass player. Her grooves are absolutely dead solid. and she sings on top of it.

Sorry about the link. Glad ya'll got it to work. I am constantly amazed and entertained by scots. They take their already up tempo stuff and jack it up even more live and tunes like "meximelt" are just amazing to watch them play at the speed and length of the song.

I haven't had a chance to get to REverend show yet, but did get his Christmas CD as part of my weird Christmas tunes collection.
