| It was an incredible opening ceremony. I just couldn't stop thinking about how much it must have cost. How much is ONE light-up drum head, let alone 2,008 of them? Or a roll-up LCD screen the size of a football field? Amazing! | |

| I'm really looking forward to the swimming & diving. Probably my 2 favorite competitions of the summer Olympics. I have no particular athletes I'm cheering for, just to say I like to see the American teams win. There's a lot of "to-do" over here about Mark Phelps who could possibly break the world records held by Mark Spitz. That would be cool, as long as we don't find out 6 months from now steroids or some other athletic-enhancement drug was used. Didn't that happen in the last winter Olympics? Also looking forward the seeing the 40 or 41 yr. old American swimmer compete. I think this is her 3rd or 4th Olympics? Amazing! Who says you don't get better with age?? It's good to know I may still have time to compete! I also love hearing about the underdog stories. The people who had no chance whatsoever to compete, and there they are at the Olympics! I think those are the people who are the true champions! What sports does everyone else like? (off topic: Bear85, I like your new avatar! But I really miss your blank box with the red "X" in it! I'm not one to talk, I just figured out how to post pictures about 3 weeks ago. Now if I could only resize them...) | |

| Hate to rain on a parade, (but what the hell) but after what I have read about China and how they treat animals (forget the people) as pets and before they kill them for food, I'm given this one a big miss. On my soapbox. China should never have gotten the Olympics. With their record of human abuse, animal abuse and cruelty to just about everything that lives and moves, the IOC made a huge mistake. On a side issue I wonder if they're drug testing all the winning Chinese athletes? Oh no, we can't do that, we must portray China in a good way to the world!!! What a huge load of Sydney Olympics Horse Poo!!!!!!! I'm really pissed off, but I'm gonna go now and find a Stray Cats thread and settle down. René | |

| Pony65k-- I have to agree, I'm not sure what the IOC was drinking or smoking when they chose China, but maybe something good for the world can come out of all this. I know I probably live under a rock here in Conservative-ville, USA but I would like to think all drug testing is done equally to all atheletes. I'm probably wrong. Thanks for the link to resizing! | |

| I worked last year in China. For the special Olympics in Shanghai. (Btw togehter with an american Company. Really cool people.) I was there for 10 days. It was not my first trip to south-east-Asia, but China is.. .special. How they treat their own people, UNBELIEVABLE! The air is dirty and the city is strange to me. We had some chinese workers, (for dismantling, loading container, etc.) really poor people. And a lot of police around us who take care nobody doin his own thing. It is not my favorite country. (I quitt smoking a few weeks later...) | |
