| Hey all - does anyone know of there is a pressing of the Rant n' Rave CD without the bleep in Rebels Rule? I found a 3 CD box set on Amazon, including the self titled Stray Cats (which was stolen from my car a few years back and OOP), but I'm not sure what I'm getting. | |

| The U.S. version of "Rebels Rule" was not "beeped".

| It’s pretty interesting for me to know why the record company "beeped" the word „ass“ in “Rebels Rule”. The European version includes this beep as well as the Japanese but even back in 1983 it wasn’t a problem to use the word “ass” in a song in Europe. So why did they do it? Anybody can help…maybe Tommy!? BB | |

| I have yet to find a CD version of Rant-n-Rave without the beep. I recorded the vinyl version to my computer, and so anytime I'm compiling a CD or loading Rant-n-Rave onto an mp3 device, I have to replace the beeped version with that one.
So, did the original vinyl versions outside the US all get beeped? I was wondering where that all got started.

| Rick, I can't recall.....does the EMI America (CD) version of RNR have the beep? I didn't think it did. T | |

| I don't know - you'll have to ask someone who has one. The first copy I bought in a local record shop said "Made in Germany," while a second copy I snagged off eBay was apparently made in the UK.
I remember when you had to look hard for your favorite imported music. Now, with the internet, there's hardly any such thing as an import, and I find myself struggling to find a proper US version!

| Rick,
all European versions include the beep. The cover of the European version has a yellow red-lined Stray Cats-logo in the right upper corner.
The Japanese version also includes the beep. The front of the cover looks like the North American one with the purple Stray Cats-logo in the lower right corner.
There is an American CD release without the beep...it's the one with original front cover and a black inlay with yellow red-lined logo on the back.
Hope you understand what I mean...

Doo-wop harmonies, Everly-esque harmonies, incendiary rock-n-roll on Something's Wrong With My Radio and How Long You Wanna Live Anyway?, juke-joint r&b on Look At That Cadillac, Bo Diddley beats and plenty of attitude on the anthemic Rebels Rule, and a heaping helping of 'billy on 18 Miles to Memphis and Hot Rod Gang. The opening bars of (She's) Sexy and 17 are hard to beat, as are the final moments of How Long You Gonna Live Anyway? - is there any stronger track to end an album anywhere? About the only tune that doesn't do it for me is Dig Dirty Doggie, but the rest of the album more than makes up for it. I love Built for Speed, especially considering it was my introduction to Stray Cats, but seeing as how it's really a compilation album, I have to rank Rant-n-Rave right up there as a favorite of mine. Of course, with my iPod, my favorite album is now Stray Cats Gonna Ball-n-Rant-n-Rave As They're Built For Speed to Blast Off and Go Faster in Their Choo Choo Hot Fish of Original Cool.

| Another excellent disc!
On a side note, that is a neat photo of the Cats and the Stones on the website today (my thanks as well to Ari-Pekka). Since we're talking about the music player here, I was wondering if anyone knew of any performances that exist (live recorded songs) of the Stones/Cats or the Stones with Brian Setzer from the early 80's tours? I think that would be a nice future addition to the music player, a la similar to the Bryan Adams, Brian Wilson, Dave Edmunds, etc. tracks that have been featured before. | |

| Alright you mugs! Rant n' Rave is being loaded as I type. I'm also gonna include all of the B-sides (remember THOSE??) and the "beeped" version of "Rebels Rule" as promised. The acappella version of "I Won't Stand In Your Way" is in there too.
With love, Tommy | |

| What a fantastic album...every single song is a smash. GREAT! GREAT ! GREAT! BTW, what about "Lookin' Better Every Beer" wasn't that the B-side of "(She's) Sexy + 17"? "Looking Out My Backdoor" was way to good for a B-side, really. BB | |

| This is great! It's 2008 and everyones talkin' about the stuff I used to discuss with my mates in the early eighties. This thread, the guitar based threads, Storm The Embassy - everything's in there. It's such a euphoric feeling guys.
I love everyone over 35 that love the cats, and Brian, for it is they that undertsand the stigma originally attached to following such a band in the heyday of Spandau and Jackson and Police etc etc. All you guys under that age... thank the lord you appreciate great music played by great musicians. Don't ever let Robbie Williams lend you to think that he's in the same business as Brian.. Different class.
